A BIT OF HISTORY Merryland Learning Center (MCL) opened its door in June 1980. It offered Nursery, Kindergarten and Preparatory courses. It has only a handful of 60 pupils in these courses. As years pass by, the enrollment was steady on the rise. A very remarkable growth was noticed in 1985 which was a clear manifestation of the community’s growing awareness towards quality education which the school subscribes to. Inspired by the elementary course had been considered.
In 1988, the Grade School was formally opened. The name Scuola Madonna della Scala was selected. The name envisions the Philippine educational system which is compared to a ladder that every enrollee should undergo. Each grade level represents the step leading to the completion of the elementary course. Scuola Madonna della Scala initially offered grades I to IV of the elementary course. It started during the school year 1988 - 1989 with only 62 pupils. Three teachers were then employed in 1989; Grade V was added followed by Grade VI in 1990. Complete Elementary Course was catered henceforth. Like the MCL, the enrollment showed rapid growth. It has not only attracted the children of Malibay but also neighboring communities. Presently it has surpassed its expected number of pupils. Selective admission is now being strictly enforced with the aim to fill in only the available slots per grade level. In the advent of computer – generated technology, the school opted to extend its services in 1997 - 1998 by including Secondary Course and translating its name in English to “St. Mary of the Steps School.” Thirteen first year and second year students graced its opening. At present, enrollment has been noticeably escalating. |
